Oracabessa Bay Fish Sanctuary
The Sanctuary is a joint project between the Oracabessa Foundation and the Oracabessa Fishers Association. We began the ground work in late 2008 and the Sanctuary became officially 'Gazetted' (i.e.: written into law) by the Jamaican Government on May 7, 2010.
In 2016 we formalized our partnership by setting up the Oracabessa Marine Trust. A charitable trust fund to sustainably manage the marine resources of Oracabessa bay.
We're proud of how far we've come since 2008, having increased the amount of fish in the bay by over 10,000% (Biomass). We still have a far way to go because there are many critical challenges. The sanctuary is in crucial need of sustainable funding to continue on our solid legacy, and we need as much help as we can get. We hope that you'll consider coming on board as we continue our efforts to build
"A Healthy Bay That Provides for All Community Members".
